Bride in front of Kingswood Manor on her wedding morning

Kingswood Manor Wedding Photographer, Surrey

Kingswood Manor in Surrey is a red brick manor house with a lot of lawn, which turns out to be a very good combination. Rosie and Jamie had their ceremony outside under a flower arch, drinks on the grass and dinner in a marquee that caught the last of the evening light. The house sits just outside Lower Kingswood, near Tadworth and I covered the whole day on both stills and film.

An outdoor ceremony, weather permitting

The arch was set up on the lawn with the house behind it. Outdoor ceremonies are lovely and also slightly nerve wracking, because you are at the mercy of the sky. On the day it behaved itself, which is not something I would put in writing as a guarantee.

What the open grounds give you is space. Guests spread out, children run about and you get the sort of relaxed pictures that a tightly packed room never quite produces.

The marquee

The marquee was dressed simply, with foliage running down the tables and a lot of natural light coming through the sides. Marquees can be tricky to photograph once the sun drops, so I shoot the room while it is still empty and bright, then work with whatever lighting is in there for the evening.

Confetti and portraits

Confetti outside the house, then portraits in the grounds as the light went golden. The gap between the wedding breakfast and the evening is usually the best twenty minutes of the day for couple portraits and at Kingswood Manor there is plenty of room to wander.

Other Surrey venues nearby

If you are still deciding, there are a few others close by that I know well. Botleys Mansion is the grander option if you want a staircase and a ballroom. Horsley Towers gives you gothic arches and a great hall that does half the work for you. Foxhills Country Club has the space and the light across the course in the evening. Wotton House has the Italian gardens, which are hard to beat for portraits.
