Filming at Farnham Castle

Farnham Castle has been standing since the twelfth century and you feel it the moment you walk in. Stone, height, and rooms that have clearly seen a great deal. As somewhere to film it is generous. There is always another angle, another doorway, another bit of light coming through somewhere it has no business coming through.

It takes 150 for the ceremony and up to 200 in the evening, with a bridal suite and 33 further rooms on site. That last number is the useful one. It means most of your party stays put, so I can film the morning without anybody driving between houses.

Exclusive use, so there is no other event running alongside yours. I am based in Grayshott, roughly half an hour away, which makes this close to home ground for me.

Mel and Oliver at Farnham Castle

Mel and Oliver had an intimate ceremony at the castle and I filmed the day from start to finish. If you want to see how a castle wedding actually plays out rather than how the brochure describes it, their day is worth a few minutes of your time.

How I work on the day

I do not pose people. No forced smiles, no interruptions, no standing you in a doorway for twenty minutes while I fiddle with a light. I film what happens. Most couples tell me afterwards that they forgot I was there, which is the part I am proudest of.

It gives interesting light and a great deal of texture, which is exactly what you want behind you. Modern rooms are flat. Old stone catches light at every angle and makes even a simple shot look considered.

Yes, exclusive use, so there is no other event to work around. It means I can be set up early and get the quiet shots of the empty rooms before anyone arrives.

On site. A bridal suite plus thirty three further rooms means the preparations usually all happen in one place, so nobody is driving anywhere and I am not losing half an hour between two houses.

150 for the ceremony, 150 seated and up to 200 in the evening.

I am in Grayshott, about half an hour from the castle, so travel does not come into the quote. Mel and Oliver were married here and I filmed the whole day.
