Shannon and Ash’s Wedding Day Story
New Place Hotel, Shirrell Heath
New Place Hotel is a Jacobean manor at Shirrell Heath, about twenty minutes out of Southampton, with thirty two acres around it. Shannon and Ash were married here and I filmed the day. This is what the house is actually like to film in.
A bit of history
The house dates back to the seventeenth century. What matters for a film is that it has four genuinely different spaces, so a wedding here does not run out of looks by the afternoon. The Bristol Room in the morning and the Arden Suite at night do not look like the same building.
What it gives you as a wedding venue
- The grounds
Thirty two acres means I can walk you far enough from the party that the two of you stop performing. The lake and the older trees give the middle of the film somewhere quiet to sit, which most of a wedding day does not.
- The rooms you can use
The Arden Suite takes 110 for the ceremony, the Dining Room seats 95 and the Bristol Room does 55 for a smaller one. Dark wood is not easy to expose for, so I light the front of the room rather than relying on what comes through the windows. It keeps faces clean without making it look lit.

To have the day properly recorded you want both stills and film and a Hampshire wedding videographer is essential.
