A bridal couple having wedding photos taken in the grounds of Castle Hedingham

Louise and Leo’s wedding at Castle Hedingham, Essex

When Louise and Leo first got in touch with me about filming their wedding, I was so excited – they were planning to hold it at Castle Hedingham where I have filmed weddings before and it’s an incredible venue. As a Surrey based videographer, I cover the South East of England including Essex.

Bridal preparation

I started at the Garden Cottage, where the bride and her friends were getting ready, and it was really exciting, all the girls were there. Louise wore a lacy dress and a long vail. She looked absolutely breathtaking and I think I captured this perfectly with her dad’s reaction. Here are a few screen grabs from the film.

I also went across to Leo who was getting ready in the Medieval Lodge. He wore a suit with braces and a bow tie along with his groomsmen and they all looked really incredible.

The ceremony

They planned their castle wedding with a ceremony in the breathtaking Banqueting Hall in the Castle. This was decorated with beautiful Kower arrangements and candle lit which gave it a very unique and romantic atmosphere along with a group planning stringed instruments. Having an owl deliver the wedding rings to the best man added the wow factor to what was already an awesome ceremony.

We then left the Norman Castle and Louise and Leo were showered confetti on the Tudor Bridge. With the wind, it didn’t go exactly to plan but I still managed to get some great footage.

The reception

Everyone then enjoyed reception drinks in the splendour of the hall and gardens of the grand Georgian House over looking the lake. They had a live singer and pianist to provide some ambiance and the the owl along with other birds of pray were on display and for guests to interact with. It was a bright and sunny day, which was what the couple had hoped for.

I capture my favourite wedding drone footage in the afternoon flying up the lack and over the Georgian House with the castle on the edge of the frame. Check it out below!

Alex, their photographer then took them off for some couples photos. This is a time where the couple can spend some time together (along with Alex and myself at a distance). Alex captured some incredible photos in the grounds and I documented it for their wedding feature film. Below are a screen grabs from the footage.

The wedding breakfast

Guests made their way to the Ballroom Marquee on the Tulip Lawn. Again, this was stunning with large floral displays on the tables and a very unique mixed traditional and donut wedding cake. They enjoyed a lovely meal with friends and family and the musician kept everyone entertained. There was then three speeches from Louis’s dad, Leo and the best man. The best man’s speech really stood out to me as he was a little nervous but delivered a great speech in the form of a personal poem.

The evening

The starlit canopy dance floor was then revealed. The DJ started the music for their first dance and all the guests watched on. They quickly joined in and before long, everyone was up and dancing. To finish the evening off we went outside to the Tulip Lawn where the couple made their way through a sparkler tunnel of guests. This was such a lovely way to end the evening and went down really well.

Top tip for planning a wedding

Us the couples portrait time to enjoy each other and absorb the day. On your wedding day time seems to fly and if you are not careful you will be at the end of the night having not really spent much time alone together.
