Filming at The Alverbank
The Alverbank is a Grade II star listed house at Alverstoke on Stokes Bay Road, with lawns that run out towards the Solent and the Isle of Wight sitting on the horizon behind them. It is a small venue by the standards of most of the places I film and that is the appeal. The whole day happens within about a hundred yards.
Ceremonies happen either out on the lawn with the water behind you or inside in the hall. The lawn is the one to hope for. Sea light is soft and it comes from every direction at once, which is why it flatters everybody, and the Solent gives the background a bit of movement rather than a flat wall.
The Banqueting Hall seats a hundred and twenty and takes two hundred through the evening, so the room does the whole day without anybody being moved somewhere else halfway through. For a film that matters. Fewer resets means fewer gaps and more of the day actually recorded.
There are bedrooms on site including a bridal suite, so the morning starts here rather than in a hotel across Gosport. Stokes Bay itself is a two minute walk, so if you want the shingle and the water in your film we can be out and back inside a quarter of an hour.

Katie and Iain at The Alverbank
Katie and Iain got married at The Alverbank and I filmed the whole day. If you would rather see what a wedding here actually looks like than read about it, their teaser and highlight film are below.
How I work on the day
No posing, no forced smiles, no interruptions. I film what happens and I keep out of the way while I do it. If your photographer sets something up I will use it, but I am not going to stop your day for the sake of a shot.
Filming notes for The Alverbank
- Outdoor ceremonies on the lawn for a hundred and twenty, with the Solent behind you.
- The Banqueting Hall does the meal and the evening, so nothing has to be reset mid day.
- Bedrooms on site including a bridal suite, so the morning starts at the venue.
- Stokes Bay is a two minute walk if you want the water and the shingle in the film.
- Sea air means wind, so speeches and vows go onto radio mics as a matter of course.
