Filming at Elmers Court
Elmers Court sits above the Solent on the edge of the New Forest and the water is the reason to film here. Twenty three acres of grounds run down towards Lymington and the marina and on a clear afternoon you can see across to the Isle of Wight. That view does a lot of work in a wedding film. It gives me a wide establishing shot that no barn or hotel inland can offer and it changes colour through the day, so the morning footage and the golden hour footage do not look like the same place.
The ceremony usually happens outside on the Queen Mary Lawn. Outdoor ceremonies are the best and the hardest thing I film. Best because the light is generous and the space is open. Hardest because wind carries voices away and this stretch of coast is not sheltered. I mic the groom and the celebrant and I run a backup recorder, so if the breeze picks up mid vow your words are still on the film. The nineteenth century manor house behind the lawn gives me something solid to frame against, which stops the wide shots feeling empty.
The reception moves into the Grand Ballroom. Speeches record cleanly in there and the room takes decoration well. Accommodation is on site, which makes my morning much simpler, because the bridal prep, the groom’s prep and the ceremony all sit within a short walk of each other and I am not losing an hour to travel. If you are getting ready somewhere else, tell me early and I will build the timings around it.
One thing to know if you are booking now. Elmers Court has rebranded and now trades as THE NICI New Forest. Same estate, same lawn, same view over the Solent. Some satnavs still send you to the old address, so use the postcode SO41 5ZB.

Erin and James at Elmers Court
Erin and James got married here on a properly sunny day, with the ceremony outside on the Queen Mary Lawn and the reception in the Grand Ballroom. Their photographer put me in touch and I filmed the whole day. If you would rather see what a wedding at Elmers Court actually looks like than read about it, their day is the best place to start.
How I work on the day
No posing, no forced smiles, no interruptions. I film what happens and I keep out of the way while I do it. If your photographer sets something up I will use it, but I am not going to stop your day for the sake of a shot.
