Filming at The Tithe Barn

The Tithe Barn sits on Ditcham Farm above Petersfield and the first thing you notice is the view. The South Downs run away behind the barn, so if the weather gives me anything at all there is a backdrop here that most Hampshire venues would envy.

Inside it is stone walls, heavy wooden beams and a proper floor. Barns can be awkward to film in because they swallow light and throw sound around but this one handles both well and the venue has a good system already built in. That matters more than couples expect. It means your speeches actually sound like speeches on the finished film.

It takes 250 for the ceremony and 250 again in the evening, so it is one of the larger venues I film at. Accommodation is off site, so tell me where you are staying and getting ready and I will plan the morning around it.

Bethany and Daniel at The Tithe Barn

Bethany and Daniel got married here and I filmed the whole day. If you would rather see what a wedding at The Tithe Barn actually looks like than read about it, their day is the best place to start.

How I work on the day

No posing, no forced smiles, no interruptions. I film what happens and I keep out of the way while I do it. If your photographer sets something up I will use it but I am not going to stop your day for the sake of a shot.

Filming notes for The Tithe Barn

  1. 250 for the ceremony, 250 seated, 250 in the evening. One of the larger venues I film at.
  2. Views over the South Downs behind the barn, which is usually where the couple portraits want to happen.
  3. Stone, beams and a good built-in sound system, so speeches record cleanly.
  4. Exclusive use, so there is no other event to work around.
  5. Accommodation is off site. Let me know where you are getting ready and I will build the morning around the travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here, yes. Barns usually throw sound around and swallow the ends of sentences. The Tithe Barn has a good built-in system and I record from that as well as from my own microphones, so speeches come back clean rather than echoing.

On the side where the South Downs run away behind the barn. That is where the portraits want to happen and it is usually the shot the whole film gets built around, so it is worth protecting twenty minutes for it somewhere in the afternoon.

It does. 250 for the ceremony, 250 seated and 250 in the evening is a big day, so I stay close to you rather than trying to cover the whole room. A wide shot of 250 people says very little. I also ask in advance which people matter most, so they are definitely in the film.

Tell me where you and your partner are getting ready as soon as you know. I build the timings around the real travel rather than around an assumption and if you are in two different places I will tell you honestly what fits in the time and what does not.

No, it is exclusive use, so there is nothing to work around. That means I can be set up early and the quiet shots of the empty barn before anyone arrives are actually possible.
