Filming at Rivervale Barn

Rivervale Barn sits at Mill Farm just outside Yateley, close enough to the Surrey border that half the guest list usually arrives from the other side of it. It goes out on exclusive use, which is the single thing that makes the biggest difference to a wedding film. There is no second party in the next room and no staff clearing somebody else glasses behind me while I am filming your speeches.

There are two places to say the words. The Ceremony Barn seats a hundred and fifty and the Spinney does it outdoors in the trees for a hundred, and I would take either. The Spinney gives me dappled light and the sound of the place, and the barn gives me a clean line down the aisle when the weather does what English weather does.

The layout is the quiet strength here. The Ceremony Barn, the Dining Barn, the courtyard and the dancefloor all sit within a few steps of each other, so the day flows from one to the next without anybody being herded. For me that means I am never running to catch up, which is when handheld footage starts to look like handheld footage.

Rivervale Lodge has ten ensuite bedrooms and the Cornstore Cottage takes the couple, so the morning happens on site. The Pamper Room and Shepherd’s Rest are proper preparation spaces with real daylight rather than a spare room with a mirror in it, and that shows up in the first ten seconds of the film.

Their address is Rivervale Barn, Mill Farm, Mill Lane, Yateley, Hampshire, GU46 7SS.

Alicia and Josh at Rivervale Barn

Alicia and Josh got married at Rivervale Barn and I filmed the whole day. If you would rather see what a wedding here actually looks like than read about it, their teaser is below.

How I work on the day

No posing, no forced smiles, no interruptions. I film what happens and I keep out of the way while I do it. If your photographer sets something up I will use it, but I am not going to stop your day for the sake of a shot.

Filming notes for Rivervale Barn

  1. Exclusive use, so there is no other wedding to work around at any point in the day.
  2. Ten ensuite bedrooms in the lodge plus the Cornstore Cottage, so the morning starts on site.
  3. Two ceremony options, the Ceremony Barn for a hundred and fifty and the Spinney outdoors for a hundred.
  4. The Pamper Room and Shepherd’s Rest both have real daylight for getting ready footage.
  5. Two hundred in the evening, with the courtyard and the dancefloor a few steps apart.

There are many wedding venues across Hampshire and some of my personal favourites are;

  1. Cain Manor, Bordon
  2. Sandford Springs, Tadley

  • Frequently Asked Questions

It is the main reason I like filming here. With nobody else on site I can walk the barns and the courtyard while they are still empty and get the wide shots that set the film up. On a shared site those shots either do not exist or they have strangers in them.

If the forecast holds, the Spinney. Outdoors in the trees gives me light through leaves and the actual sound of the place, which no room can match. The Ceremony Barn is the safer call and it films beautifully, so there is no wrong answer.

Only for the better. The day grows rather than staying flat, and the courtyard means the evening spills outside instead of everybody standing in one room. I will be near the doors when the evening guests arrive.

If they can, yes. Ten bedrooms means the closest people are already there in the morning, so the getting ready footage has your mum and your sister in it rather than a text message saying they are twenty minutes away.

The Pamper Room and Shepherd’s Rest, which are two of the better preparation spaces I work in. Both have real windows, so I am filming faces rather than fighting a ceiling light.

Questions about packages, pricing and how long the films take to arrive are answered on my full FAQ page. Anything specific to Rivervale Barn that is not here, just ask me.
