Filming at Cissbury Barns

Cissbury Barns sits at Nepcote in Findon, tucked under Cissbury Ring with the South Downs directly behind it. The barns are eighteenth century and they have been left looking like barns, flint and oak beams rather than a conversion that has been smoothed until it could be anywhere. That texture is what gives the film its character before anybody has said a word.

The East Barn is licensed and the Glade does the ceremony outdoors, and I would happily film either. The Glade puts trees and sky behind you and lets me record the actual sound of the place. The East Barn gives me the oak and a clean line down the aisle when the weather makes the decision for you.

A hundred and twenty sit down and up to two hundred and fifty come through the evening, which is a big jump. It means the day genuinely builds, and the arrival of the evening guests becomes a scene rather than a shuffle. I plan to be by the doors for it.

The gardens and the downland behind the venue are the reason to give me ten minutes after the meal. Findon is a few minutes from Worthing, so if you want the sea in the film that is an option too, though honestly the hill behind the barns usually wins.
