Filming at Sandhurst
I spent twenty four years in the fire service before I did this, so a wedding at Sandhurst lands differently for me than it might for other videographers. I know what the ceremonial side means to the people taking part and I know when to put the camera down.
The ceremony is normally a church service in the chapel, conducted by a military padre, with the option of a choir. The chapel was built in 1813 and still holds most of its original features. Decorated with flowers it is one of the loveliest rooms I film in and the acoustics are such that a choir genuinely lifts the footage rather than simply filling it.
Receptions happen in one of three places and each has its own feel. I have filmed at all three. A marquee by the lakeside gives you a proper summer day with the grounds open around you. The Old College Dining Room and Robertson House are more formal, with the academy’s history, memorabilia and old photographs on the walls. 150 for the ceremony, 150 seated, up to 200 in the evening, with accommodation off site.

How I work on the day
No posing, no forced smiles, no interruptions. Sandhurst has its own order to it and I work within that rather than against it. I film what happens, I keep out of the way and I never ask anyone to repeat a moment for the camera.

Can I get married at RMA Sandhurst?
In order to be married at RMAS you are required meet the following criteria:
- A serving officer
- Child of a Serving officer
- Retired Officer
- Habitual attender at RMC Service
- Any person or child of any person, military or civilian working within the bounds of RMAS
Filming notes for Sandhurst
